It's easy to wonder if Jesus truly loves me. We've all been let down by people, and it's hard to imagine someone loving us unconditionally. But the Bible is clear: Jesus loves us deeply and unconditionally.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). This verse is a powerful reminder of God's incredible love for us. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8 says, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." This wasn't something we earned. It was a gift of grace: "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
It can be hard to grasp this kind of love, especially if you've made mistakes or feel unworthy. But Jesus is different. He is God in human form (John 1:14). He created us, sustains us, and offers us a new life – both now and for eternity.
The story of the thief on the cross beautifully illustrates Jesus' love and forgiveness. This man, facing death for his crimes, turned to Jesus and said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus replied, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:42-43). Even in his final moments, Jesus offered forgiveness and eternal life.
When we ask, "How much does Jesus love me?" the answer is found on the cross. He stretched out His hands and said, "I love you this much." He sacrificed His life to give you new life.
